Strength + Balance Class

Our Strength and Balance Classes are aimed to keep you on your feet in your later years. There is a mixture of exercises in both sitting and standing and the class is supervised by a trained physiotherapist who will help you safely build your strength, balance, reflexes, and coordination. This type of class is proven to help maintain muscle mass and reduce the risk of falls.

There are a number of risk factors that increase the likelihood of falling including muscle weakness, problems with balance and gait, and blood pressure that drops too much when you get up from lying down or sitting.  All of these factors naturally deteriorate with age, however you can slow the decline with specific exercises such as the ones performed in this class.

This class is suited to you if you are 75+ years of age or if you lack confidence with balance and walking. Although many of our attendees are referred directly from their GP, you do not need a referral to attend.  â€‹â€‹

Regular exercise is shown to
reduce the risk of falls by up to 42%
in people 75 years or older.
